Pepe Reina passes medical in Munich

Spanish keeper Pepe Reina has all but completed the final formalities before joining Bayern after passing the obligatory pre-transfer medical at chief medical officer Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt’s Munich practice on Thursday evening. Reina will report to the club’s Säbener Strasse headquarters to sign a three-year contract on Friday. “I'm delighted to be coming to one of the world's biggest clubs,” said the 31-year-old, who moves to Bavaria from Liverpool.

“Pep wanted a keeper like Manuel Neuer who’s capable of joining in the build-up play,” commented FCB chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. The new shot-stopper fills a vacancy in the FCB squad. “You can never take for granted finding a man with his experience and quality who's prepared to accept the number two position. Michael Reschke has done very well while we were in the USA,” Rummenigge said.

Reina was just 18 when he made his professional debut with Barcelona, where he played from 2000 until 2002. After three years with Villarreal, Reina joined Liverpool in 2005, before spending last season on loan to Napoli. As a Spain international Reina won the 2008 and 2012 Euros and the 2010 World Cup. He is looking to extend his medal collection with Munich: “I've come here because I want to win as many titles as possible," he informed fcbayern.de.
