Badstuber sidelined with tendon damage

Holger Badstuber, who returned to action this summer after 20 months out with cruciate problems, suffered another injury setback in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over VfB Stuttgart. The centre-back has ruptured a tendon in his left thigh, FCB chief medical officer Dr Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt announced on Sunday after examining the player.

Badstuber will require surgery to repair the damage and faces another long spell on the sidelines. “I’m obviously very disappointed right now,” Badstuber admitted to fcbayern.de, “but of course I now know how you deal with situations like this. Don’t worry! I’ll be back, and I’ll pick it up from where I left off after battling to return from my long injury lay-off. I won’t give up!”

The central defender fought his way back into the team after recovering from a double cruciate ligament injury and had been on promising form in the early matches of the new league season. Pep Guardiola must now cope without Badstuber for the foreseeable future.
