Bayern adopt Lederhosen-look for away trips

Around three weeks prior to the 180th Munich Oktoberfest, there was a foretaste of the festival atmosphere at the Säbener Strasse facility on Sunday morning. For the official launch of the new Bayern away kit, FCB Partner adidas set up a small-scale marquee and several amusement stands. There was a good reason too, because the treble winners and newly-crowned European Super Cup holders will now play their away games in a Lederhosen-look kit, true to the motto ‘more Bayern than ever before.’

“This is a bit special. We’ve never had a shirt like this before. It's a very good fit to us,” said vice captain Bastian Schweinsteiger, who joined Javi Martínez and Munich-born Diego Contento to model the new kit. “It’s a super idea,” continued Bavarian native Schweinsteiger, admiring the new combination of white shirts, brown shorts reminiscent of Lederhosen, and socks with an authentic calf-warmer design. An Alpine parade jacket and jaunty hat mean Bayern now have a complete Oktoberfest look for their travels.

“We come from Bavaria, and the world-famous Oktoberfest belongs to the state, so I think it’s very good for us to have this shirt,” said Schweinsteiger, who joined Martínez after the official launch for a traditional Bavarian contest at the amusement stands. Germany’s player of the year easily beat his World Cup and EURO 2012-winning team-mate at Hau‘ den Lukas and Nageln, but Martínez matched the local boy at Dosenwerfen and Luftballon-Spickern.

The stars will launch the new kit in match action at home to Hannover 96 on 14 September. The away kit will make its road debut a week later when FCB travel to face Schalke 04 in Gelsenkirchen. The new kit is available now from our online shop, and from all FC Bayern official fan shops in Germany.
